To my joy I found the ‘Professor Slack’ 10″ by The Lost Jockey on eBay a few days ago, a record that I’ve been actively looking for during the past 10 years. I don’t think I would have even looked for it on eBay the other day if I hadn’t found an mp3 of Rise & Fall, a track from the EP, by mistake while checking out some random blog.
If you haven’t heard about The Lost Jockey before, I wouldn’t be surprised since no-one seems to have, at least that’s the impression I’ve been given during all the years I’ve been looking for ‘Professor Slack’. They were a rather large ensemble playing pulse based minimalism, somewhat inspired by early Philip Glass and Steve Reich I’d say, but mixing it up with a lighter side inspired by popular music.
You should have heard about Andrew Poppy though, one of the founding members and pianist of the ensemble, later member of Psychic TV and composer of amazing albums such as ‘The Beating of Wings’ and ‘Alphabed’. If you haven’t you can read some interesting interviews with him here and here, as an introduction. You can also check out his official homepage, where I borrowed the picture above.
Well done for finding Lost Jockey and the MP3 of Rise & Fall. If you need anymore info, contact me and I’ll help if I can.
