Where The Wild Things Are

Where The Wild Things Are

A tight veil of secrecy has been placed on the shooting of Maurice Sendack’s classic ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, but cast and crew are expected to be in the area for several days. Filming took place at a number of locations last week including Gilwell Park in the Dandenong Ranges.
The movie is being directed by Spike Jonze and produced by Tom Hanks and Maurice Sendak.
Stars include Catherine Keener, Benicio Del Toro, Forest Whitaker and Michelle Williams. The movie is expected to combine live action and computer-generated images with a likely G rating.

I just read about Spike Jonze new project, a movie based on Maurice Sendack’s ‘Where The Wild Things Are‘. I absolutely loved that book when I was younger and even though I haven’t read it for 20 years the pictures bring back a lot of memories. With the risk of being disappointed I’m looking forward to it very, very much. Expected release is sometime 2008.

holy cow. that’s great news. well, at least if the film turns out good. i’d more or less forgotten about that book, but it was a childhood favourite of mine as well. will see if i can dig out a copy of it somewhere. btw, the swedish title is “till vildingarnas land”.

I don’t think I have a copy of it left, and if I do it is the attic at either one of my parents place. I might have to check Bokus or something.

I’m glad someone else also have fond memories of it!

I have actually seen one, er, “movie based on…” - well, stills - on TV!, with hardboiled voice-over! - does that count?

Anyhoo. A true classic. May very well be the reason we all turned out the way we did? I listened to “Vilse I Pannkakan” the other day and, well, uh, perhaps that’s a whole other story altogether…

just read it. it’s way, way shorter than i remember, but the pics truly are amazing. also, max is wearing a wolf suit, which reminded me of slottsskogen’s cat boy (www.glitchpunkyouth.com/blog/?p=261). anyway, the book seems to be oop, but you might want to check out this auction: http://www.tradera.com/auction/aid_34141542

Karl: It is oop in swedish but seems to be avilable in english, so I might pick up one of those. It’s really the actual pictures I’m after.

noc: Nope, not swedish.. american/english?! And yes, I had my doubts about Tom Hanks being involved, but I try not to care too much ;)
