You Can Come By...

I finally got my copies of You Can Come By Anytime You Want To, I’ll Be Around released on Zeromoon in June last year. It isn’t available through Zeromoon anymore so if you haven’t bought a copy yet, get in touch with me somehow if you might be interested and I’m sure we can work something out.

Larry Johnson of Earlabs wrote this review that might give you a clue what it is all about:

The full title of this recent addition to Zeromoon’s CONSUME BUY 2006 releases is “You Can Come By Anytime You Want To, I’ll Be Around”. The eight tracks on this album delve deeper into Jonas Lindgren’s exploration into the idyllic sounds of drone pop.

According to his blog, this album has been three years in the making and of it Lindgren says, “While it has always had a special place in my heart I’ve had problems letting it go, and to be honest, for a while I didn’t think I would.” Fortunately, for those of us who take pleasure in the lighter and more reflective side of the drone genre, he did let go and blessed us with these eight pensive love songs.

Via the means of a beautifully layered blend of glistening guitar sounds, piano, field recordings, electronics, and digital editing, Lindgren’s poignant album captures the essence of the emotion of love. The sounds of the individual tracks, along with their suggestive titles, reflect many of the feelings that we associate with this emotion: passion, apprehension, regret, longing, separation, and renewal to identify just a few.

The album begins with the initially sparse and tense sounding “Just Close Your Eyes (Again)” that slowly builds into a thick, swelling droning collage of sounds. This is followed by the repetitive, sad, and almost distressed sounding, but hopefully titled, “Until Thing Things Get Better (You Know They Will In The End)”. The delicately microtone textured “You Can Come By Anytime You Want To” dissolves the tense, melancholy atmosphere of the preceding track until the last minute when it assumes an abrasive stance that serves as a transition to more abstract “I’ll Be Around” . The first five minutes of this more chaotic composition are coarse and noisy but this is eventually offset in the final two minutes by a culminating drone consisting of carefully controlled feedback and high-pitched frequencies. The filigrane “We Can Send Letters” marks a return to the relaxing microtonal textures of “You Can Come By Anytime You Want To” . “Interlude”, as the title suggests, provides a little breathing room between tracks with a mixture of gentle, shimmering drones and crackling field recordings. The album reaches a fitting conclusion with two tracks of hope and renewal. “Hang On (The Sun Comes Out Tomorrow)” despite having some sad undertones displays an air of hopeful anticipation which become realized in the robust and blissful resonating “She Came Around”.
